Lucofin® – Innovation for high-performance composites
Lucofin® is the pioneering product range for the production of high-quality plastic composites. Based on a thermoplastic copolymer of ethylene and butyl acrylate (EBA), Lucofin® offers impressive versatility ranging from flexibility to high temperature stability.
Lucofin® 1400MN and Lucofin® 1492M HG are key components in wood-plastic composites (WPC compounds) that are successfully used in the construction and injection moulding industries. The unique combination of Lucofin® 1492MHG as an adhesive or bonding agent, possibly in combination with Lucofin® 1400HN/MN/PN as polymer modifiers, significantly improves the handling, mechanical properties and long-term behaviour of the resulting blends.
An outstanding example of the performance of Lucofin® can be seen in the processing of a PP (polypropylene)-based compound with 50 % wood fibres. By adding just 2 % Lucofin® 1492M HG as an adhesion promoter and 8 % Lucofin® 1400MN, a normally required release agent can be dispensed with. At the same time, extrusion pressure is reduced and demoulding speed is improved. With its low melting point, higher polydispersity and long-chain branching, Lucofin® sets new standards.
The use of Lucofin® 1492M HG leads to improved (notched) impact strength at different temperatures, from room temperature down to -15 °C and -28 °C. At the same time, water absorption is reduced and the moulding speed is improved. At the same time, water absorption and moisture expansion after water absorption (both after conditioning and under dry conditions) are reduced, resulting in significantly improved long-term properties when used outdoors or with periodic exposure to rain and UV radiation (sunlight).
